Southwest Louisiana Fishermen to Disrupt Destructive Gas Export Buildout with Boats

NEW ORLEANS  – Southwest Louisiana fishermen and shrimpers, along with climate activists and environmental justice organizations, will transport their boats to New Orleans on Friday, January 19 for the Americas Energy Summit & Exhibition. Right after the Frontlines Rising March and Puppet Show concludes, the fishermen will use their boats to disrupt the conference and make clear that fishermen and shrimpers belong in Louisiana, not liquified natural gas export terminals that destroy our coast, our seafood, and our culture.

WHAT: Louisiana fishermen rally outside of international LNG conference, Americas Energy Summit & Exhibition, with boats

WHEN: Friday, January 19, press gather at 12:30pm CST, disruption begins at 1pm CST

WHERE: Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, 900 Convention Center Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70130

WHO: Travis Dardar, founder of Fishermen Involved in Sustaining our Heritage (FISH), Southwest Louisiana fishermen and shrimpers, environmental justice advocates from across Louisiana

Gas export terminals are causing irreparable damage to Louisiana’s coastal communities and ecosystems, threatening fishermen’s livelihoods and way of life.

A coalition of organizations have joined forces to organize a response to one of the world’s largest gatherings of oil, gas, and gas export terminal executives, the Americas Energy Summit. The coalition includes groups such as Sunrise New Orleans, Permian Gulf Coast Coalition, Habitat Recovery Project, the Vessel Project, For a Better Bayou and the Louisiana Bucket Brigade.

Coming right after a march and puppet show, the fishermen and shrimpers’ disruption will bookend a week of demonstrations, marches, and protests aimed at halting the gas export terminal buildout in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.
