Saints Still Atop Worst Division in NFL Football

After another unsatisfying performance and a loss to the Vikings, the Saints remain in first place in the anemic NFC South.

This means they are very much in the running for a playoff birth.

So what? You might say.

As a fan, you watch NFL football for fun. As an escape from everyday life. Only 1 team wins the Super Bowl.

You watch to see Taysom Hill do remarkable things. You watch to see Michael Thomas amaze with his incredibly reliable hands. You watch to see Demario Davis play lights out at linebacker. You watch to see Alvin Kamara defy gravity with his singular running style.

You watch them in the hope that they win.

You watch because you want them in the playoffs. Once in the playoffs -who knows?

REALITY

This Saints team is mediocre. Even though they have better players on paper than the rest of their horrible division, they are only a half game ahead. It is a miracle they are in the first place when you consider how inconsistent and at times awful they play.

The offense is bad. The defense has played so badly in the first half of the last five games it defies explanation.

It also is embarrassing.

Dennis Allen says he has to do better. No?

THE TEAM WE LOST TO

Take these facts from Ben Goessling’s writing about the game for the Minneapolis Star Tribune describing Saint’s last play.

Jameis Winston throws a Hail Mary pass at the end of the game – take it away, Mr. Goessling,

“A group of 7 Vikings converged on it (the ball); the free agent signee battled it toward the two rookie defensive backs, as the practice squad pick up who’d made the team as a sixth safety raised his fist.”

The Vikings 1st string QB Kirk Cousin was not there. Nor was their All-World WR Justin Jefferson on the field. A 2nd string LB was calling the signals in the defensive huddle.

A QB the Arizona Cardinals, who stink badly, traded to Minnesota last week, Josh Dobbs QBed the Vikes to victory.

This is the team the Saints lost to. Insert your own epithet-HERE_____.

My takeaway is that the Saints front office and scouting department, as well as the Saints coaching staff are to blame for the mediocrity of this team.

And I, for one, do not want one more excuse from them. Just play ball.

NO QB CONTROVERSY

Dennis Allen quashed any talk of Derek Carr not being the starter. Winston is just too erratic. If the damn OL can give Carr some time he can be successful. A huge IF.
