Second Congressional District Rep. Troy C. Carter leads a full slate of candidates who have been endorsed by the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee (OPDEC). The candidates selected are competing in the mid-term elections which will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Carter received a unanimous endorsement along with Democrat Katie Darling who is running in the First Congressional District. Carter and Darling have also been endorsed by the Louisiana Democratic Party.

An endorsement from OPDEC is always prized by candidates because it allows them to brand themselves as the official candidate of New Orleans Democrats. OPDEC is also one of the few organizations that mails a ballot to eligible voters.

Candidates endorsed by OPDEC Tuesday, August 23 include Lambert C. Boissiere III who is seeking his fourth and final term on the Louisiana Public Service Commission and State Rep. Royce Duplessis who is running against State Rep. Mandie Landry to replace Karen Carter Peterson in Senate District 5.

Judicial candidates endorsed by OPDEC include Judge Karen Herman, a candidate for an At-Large seat at the 4th Circuit Court of Appeal;  Judge Mark Shea who is running for re-election in Division D of Municipal and Traffic Court; and attorney Bobbie Smith who is running for an open seat in Division E of Municipal and Traffic Court. In the race for Clerk First City Court, OPDEC selected former City Councilmember Donna Glapion who recently served as Chief Deputy at Second City Court. Austin Badon currently holds the office of Clerk First City Court and is seeking re-election.

OPDEC also selected Patrice Sentino to fill a vacancy in District 1 on the Orleans Parish School Board. Sentino is running against long-time educator Leila Eames who is filling the vacancy on an interim basis, and educator Deidra Louis.

“OPDEC is pleased with the number of outstanding candidates who are seeking elected office this year. We look forward to working hard with these candidates to ensure their victory. We are also planning a voter registration drive to bring new voters into the Democratic Party,” said OPDEC Chair Lisa Ray Diggs, who also serves as Clerk Second City Court.

Almost all of OPDEC’s chosen candidates have also been endorsed by Congressman Troy Carter who is considered New Orleans’ most powerful elected official.
