In front of a crowd of 150 political, business and community leaders, Westbank attorney and small business owner Freddie King III recently announced that he will run for New Orleans City Council District C, an open seat. “I want to give back to the community that has given me so much,” said King. State Senator Gary Carter Jr. introduced King.

King told the audience that New Orleans – the city he loves so much – must succeed. “I want to work hard so that the children and families in this community can prosper, and so that their children and grandchildren live in a safe neighborhood with access to economic opportunities and basic city services.”

A native of Algiers, King graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University and received his Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center. He worked as an Orleans Parish Public Defender and also spent three years as Director of Constituent Services for New Orleans City Council District C. King has operated The King Law Firm, LLC. since 2011. King’s wife CaSandra is also a licensed attorney. They have three children and a fourth on the way in July.

King’s community activities include membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Silverback Society, and the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee. King is Vice President of the Algiers Economic Development Foundation, and a board member of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the Audubon Nature Institute, InspireNOLA Charter Schools, Heroes of New Orleans and the Old Algiers Main Street Corporation.

While Director of Constituent Services for District C, King went door-to-door speaking with citizens about the problems they were facing. He believes that all the citizens of District C deserve a seat at the table and must be part of the process that determines what will happen in their neighborhood.

King has been involved in many community projects in the Algiers community including Thanksgiving turkey giveaways, holiday meals for needy families during the Christmas season, as well as Christmas parties for children and seniors.

“I am ready to serve the citizens of District C and our beloved city as a whole. We’re all intricately connected. When our district succeeds, we’re one step closer to a better New Orleans for all,” said King. “The time is now to put our best foot forward. I took the first step today. Are you with me? Let’s roll!”

King is the first candidate to formally announce for the District C seat. Because current Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer now running At-Large, a large field is expected to qualify in July, 2021.
