The Progressive’s Weekend: 5/18 & 5/19

Come one, come all! It’s another Progressive’s Weekend in New Orleans, and Big Easy Magazine has the quick rundown on what to do.

This Saturday, visit beautiful Lake Pontchartrain and join up with several Bernie Sanders 2020 supporters for quite the gathering campaign launch. Lazy Jack Restaurant will have the food, live music will be performed, and many a conversation on how to “Feel the Bern” will be had! In feeling another kind of burn, there’ll be a public cleanup of some Elementary School properties in New Orleans East earlier in the morning. Water and lunch are to be provided to neighbors and volunteers. And if you’re in need of learning about medical debt relief, there will be fair in A.L. Davis Park set up by New Orleans Democratic Socialists. Health screenings and information of Medicaid enrollment and Medicare for All will be made available.

Early this Sunday morning, the Lusher High School Boy & Cub Scouts will be assisting in the planting of American flags for the graves of around 750 veterans in Carrollton Cemetery No 1 & No 2. Trash and debris will be cleaned as well. Anyone interested in helping is invited. Also in the morning, The Brain Institute of Louisiana will have a 5K Run/2.5K Walk to support and encourage mental well-being. Registration starts an hour prior at 8 AM. And finally, Big Easy Animal Rescue will have a Crawfish Boil with a $10 cover. “Crawfish Lisa” will be handling the boil itself.
