Directors claim that to remain competitive, the Morial Convention Center needs to build an adjoining hotel, which it currently lacks. However, the board also wants to finance the hotel using a combination of incentives and tax abatements from the city, and money from the Convention Center’s fund, which in turn comes from city taxes earmarked for its coffers.
