Al Champagne, for as long as I’ve been Facebook friends with him, has been promoting his close to being finished documentary Almost Ready, about the New Orleans punk rock scene in the 70s and 80s. With some teasers of interviews released and snippets of photos taken, it’s certainly been in production. But when will it be ready?

Neaux Reel Idea: What Is BLACKkKLANSMAN?
August 14, 2018Spike Lee’s latest film and condemnation, BlacKkKlansman, isn’t really a comedy. Sure, it’s been marketed as one. Sure, its title brings to mind Dave Chappelle’s infamous/hilarious skit from over a decade ago. And sure, one of the best ways to take away the power of racists is to expose their silly and ignorant nature (which this film does in spades). No, it still isn’t really a comedy.
7 Saints Players to Watch vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars
August 7, 2018Here are my 7 Saints players for Big Easy Magazine that I recommend all ‘Who Dats’ keep a close eye on, while watching the Black and Gold in action on the Florida “First Coast” this Thursday Night.
Neaux Reel Idea: RODENTS OF UNUSUAL SIZE Review
August 7, 2018Between climate change and oil spills, what was once solid land flourishing with trees is mostly water and mud. Contributing to the problem are the nefarious Nutria, which is where Thomas Gonzalez and crew come into play, collecting $5 per collected tail bounties from the state for reducing the population of these pesky rodents.
Pothole City
August 7, 2018It’s no secret that the roads in New Orleans are in bad shape. Drive a few blocks in any direction, and you’ll come across one of the city’s famous, “car-killer” potholes. Every few weeks, a story pops up – usually something humorous about the way a local has attempted to draw the city’s attention to the problem on their street.
Working (Without) Prosperity
July 31, 2018If you’ve been paying attention to the news, you’ve probably heard that the United States is in the middle of a new prosperous age. But to the nearly 80 percent of Americans who are still living paycheck to paycheck, those numbers and victory laps can feel a like a slap in the face. How is it that a large portion of the U.S. population is getting left behind in this age of prosperity?
Teacher & Student: Saints Hoping to Pass the Torch at the Tight End Position
July 31, 2018Among the stand-out performers for the New Orleans Saints thus far through the first week’s worth of Practice at their 2018 Training Camp: starting tight end Ben Watson and the young man who very possibly could take over that role from Watson someday: undrafted rookie tight end Deon Yelder.
Music Review: NIGEL’S DREAM from Tuba Skinny
July 31, 2018I had the fortune, many years back, of discovering Tuba Skinny’s music through a google and facebook search of local New Orleans bands. Their ninth available album, Nigel’s Dream, now for download on their Bandcamp page, continues their street side fair of jazz performance, albeit with two new exceptions; little to no Erika Lewis and it all sounds right off the record needle.
Neaux Reel Idea: The Lost Lucas, Part 2
July 24, 2018“In a world where Star Wars epitomizes the commercialization of a film franchise, it can be fascinating to look at Lucas’s original socio-political statements.” – Josiah Berger of Shotgun Cinema I have no […]

July 24, 2018As publisher of New Orleans’ latest news publication, Big Easy Magazine, I want to take some time to underscore the importance of our free press and defend its integrity. I […]
