Movies & Chill: Events for Friday (July) the 13th – 15th

Our Things to Do piece for this weekend includes new showtimes at The Broad and The Prytania. But, what if you don’t want to travel anywhere? What if you just want to crash on the couch and absorb some on-demand cinema or television? For those so inclined, we have you covered.

Below are our snack eating and mind-numbing and/or enlightening curated choices for your video on demand three evening, two-day stay-cation:

It being Friday the 13th, you may be in the mood for something delightfully terrifying or just campy fun. The horror app/channel Shudder will be broadcasting a 24-hour marathon of Joe Bob Briggs selections called The Last Drive-In! It’s the return of an old hosted tv movie night show from the 90s, in one binge watching burst. Get some friends and enjoy the anecdotes with the scares!

The Turner Classic Movies/Criterion Collection app FilmStruck features many a classic + eclectic choices in independent cinema. Now, they are spotlighting 80s Fantasies, including the Martin Short starrer Innerspace from director Joe Dante. It’s a twisted comedy of sorts, with many surprising Easter egg like details that’ll make you appreciate it all the more. Highly recommended viewing, both the movie and the app.

Whether you beat the weather by central air or window unit, stay frosty this Summer with the above cinematic choices and make an event in your home!

Hey guys!

We’re so grateful to our friends, our families, our neighbors, and especially our readers for chipping in, sharing, and donating to the cause of local progressive media. Your support has lifted us up so much and will most assuredly not be lost or forgotten.

If you care about local independent progressive media in an era where multi-millionaires such as John Georges are monopolizing our local press, then please donate any amount you can to make our operation a success. We can do this! Do not give up.

What else can you do if you’ve already donated and can’t donate anymore? Share our content on Facebook and tell people about our fundraising operation. Call and email others who may be able to give. We believe in you because you believe in us and together we can ensure Big Easy Magazine becomes a progressive icon for New Orleans and an inspiration for the expansion of progressive media around the world.
