EVENTS! Weekend of June 15th-17th

There are many exciting upcoming events this weekend, far too many to list.  However, we here at Big Easy magazine would like to touch on a few live music shows going on this weekend!  It’s the perfect time to go catch a live show.  Even though it is going to be a hot weekend, the summer time shows and concerts are often less crowded and filled with tourists than at any other time during the year.  There are many that are cheap or free and geared towards locals!  Although there are practically too many to count happening on any given weekend; here are a few handpicked shows at cool venues that we suggest:

If you haven’t had a chance to already, go check out the Canteen at the World War 2 museum on Magazine Street!  When you enter the Canteen for a show, you’ll feel like you stepped backwards in time, so for history and music buffs alike, it is a must.  You can find more information about this venue, right on Magazine Street in the Central Business District, here!  This coming weekend, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is a musical called Nunsense that is a hilarious spoof about a group of nuns trying to raise money for a funeral caused by an accidental poisoning.  You can read more and buy tickets here!

If you want to mix great food and great music, there is a world famous event every Sunday called the Gospel Brunch over at the House of Blues on Decatur Street.  This is a weekly event every Sunday morning.  It’s worth checking out will in the summer because the crowds are smaller than during the tourist season!  Find more information and tickets for this delicious event here!

If you’re looking to spend no more than ten dollars on a show, be sure to check out the Maple leaf bar on Oak Street.  This Friday, the 15th, there is a fantastic show for ten dollars called Brass Lightening at 10pm.  The Joe Crown Trio, featuring Walter “Wolfman” Washington is playing Sunday the 17th at 10pm, also for ten dollars.  Check out more info on the Maple leaf and their upcoming shows here!

If you’re looking for a good free show, be sure to check out Tipitinas on the corner of Napoleon Avenue and Tchopitoulas St.  More information on them available here!

Another venue worth checking out is the Howling Wolf!  Every Sunday they have an inexpensive show featuring the Grammy nominated Hot 8 Brass Band!  More info Here!

Whatever you end up doing this weekend, don’t forget to keep on drinking water!  Be kind! Be New Orleans!
